4 SLOW & STEADY STARS (★★★★)

I hated how deep Grey’s stormy eyes always saw into my soul. I hated the fact that he might be the only man in the world who could understand me. The only other person who ached so much over the same loss.

I finally had the chance to read one of Kendall Ryan’s novels. This author can write and Slow & Steady is the perfect evidence. Above all, I was pulled to this novel by its beautiful cover. What really convinced me, though, was the very real couple Kendall was able to bring to life on paper. Finley and Greyson left behind a very deep impression and I won’t be forgetting them soon. Slow & Steady was my first Kendall Ryan novel, but I can’t wait to read Bait & Switch. Wrong order, I know, but it doesn’t really matter. All that matters is me getting the chance to read another one of her novels.

Just sitting next to this man made me feel loose and floaty, like I was drunk after barely half a glass.

Greyson works for a private security firm after he came back from being a Navy SEAL two years ago. When he lost one of his best friends, Marcus, in combat, he couldn’t stop pushing the blame on himself. As did Marcus’ widow, Finley. Greyson tries to push everyone away. Not feeling like he deserves to live his life. One thing he can never hide though, is his protectiveness and good heart.

After the gruesome loss of her husband, Finley was left on her own to take care of their baby girl, Maple. To make ends meet, she’s forced to dance as a stripper at a Gentleman’s club at night. Finley also built an armor around herself, not letting anyone in. She’s independent, strong, and determined.

After a hard day at work, Greyson finds himself at a stripclub to release the tension, when he gets entranced by one of the dancers. Only to find out the girl is Finley. The last time he saw her was two years ago. When he finds out how bad things are, he offers to help, but Finley doesn’t want his help. Feeling like he wants to buy her forgiveness or paying off his guilt. Greyson doesn’t take no for an answer, though. He won’t relent and slowly worms his way into her and Maple’s life. Will he be able to break down both their armors and not only get her forgiveness but also his own? Or is it time to move on, separately?

Whenever I stepped into their little family, I found more than just the motivation to become a better man. They helped me believe that, someday, I could be. And I’d be damned if I let that hope slip through my fingers.

There’s a very palpable attraction between the two from the very first moment. Even though Finley was married to one of his buddies that died under his watch. I liked seeing them fall slowly in love with each other. It happened gradually at a very natural and believable pace. These real characters somehow found love with each other, with all those odds against them. They are a truly remarkable couple and they deserve all the love in the world. They both changed so much through this novel. Knowing how to still stay close to themselves. Just becoming a better version.

It wasn’t hard for me to get captured by the story and its characters. That happened pretty fast. This may be my first Kendall Ryan novel, but it certainly won’t be my last. Her style of writing appealed to me. Simple, yet knowing how to tell this tale in such a way you can’t stop flipping the pages. Making you feel like Greyson and Finley are some of your closest friends. Hoping for a happily ever after for this amazing couple. Because you know that’s what they deserve and you feel for them to the deepest of your soul.

This needed to be about me and the man I was. I needed her to want me, not just need me.

Slow & Steady is a remarkable story about making mistakes, paying for it with pain and so much guilt you’re just floating through life without actually living. It’s about slowly breaking the protective armor you built by letting someone in. Stop being hardheaded and so independent and daring to put your trust in to that someone. Eventually forgiving to get a second chance at a happily ever after. I highly recommend this sweet, heart warming and sexy romance novel to you, if you’re looking for a quick read that will get you swooning. If you need more convincing? It displays a handsome and sexy, sweet and protective ex-militair who will absolutely steal your breath away, like he did mine. Enough said.

Two people who loved and trusted each other enough to stick together through all of life’s ups and downs was something to be cherished.
